Minimum eligible spend is €200,000 for post-production, VFX and animation carried out in the Canary Islands (€1M for full live-action productions). The deduction is capped at €36M per feature. Tax incentives

54% for the first €1 million

Of the tax-credit base, and 45% above that figure (previously a 40% flat rate applied, while mainland Spain returns 30% on the first €1M).

Pre & post production costs

Minimum spend is €200,000 for pre- and post-production on animation and visual effects made in Spain (the minimum remains €1 million in other cases).

Currently capped at €36 million

The deduction is capped at €36 million per feature film, and €18 million per episode for series.

Qualifying expenses

The expenses that qualify are the costs of creative personnel resident in the EU (max €50,000 /person/year) and those arising from the use of technical industries and other suppliers.

EU subsidy intensity rules apply

In general, the intensity level allowed is 50% of the production budget. An individual analysis of the specific conditions, costs and location is required to minimise the impact of that intensity limit on the subsidies.

Financing

On a case-by-case basis The Refinery is able to finance part of the VFX and post-production budget.
